OceanEye® flies over the Gulf of Mexico

Date 10/06/16

Marine Spill Response Corporation upgraded their OceanEye® systems in Richmond (CA) and Houston (TX) this week. The upgrades included automatic tracking of objects, timeshift functionality and enhanced infrared vision, along with other safety-critical improvements.

The upgrades were verified at an offshore field test just south of the Galveston Island (TX). The test unfolded in beautiful weather in the morning, but increasing wind with 40+ kts gust due to an incoming storm, gave the MSRC balloon team a great experience in operational risk management at the end of the day. They managed to bring the system in nice and safely just before the storm hit.

MSRC also has a OceanEye® system stationed in New Jersey, complementing their national remote sensing oil spill preparedness capabilities on all three coasts of the United States.

Maritime Robotics want to thank MSRC for a fruitful cooperation, and for utilizing Balloon-level preparedness in order to protect the environment against oil spills in future!
